Few bands make it to their eleventh album. Even fewer do so with the same fire and fury that defined their early years. But Machine Head has never been an ordinary band. For more than three decades, founder, vocalist, and guitarist Robb Flynn has led Machine Head down an uncompromising path fueled by rebellion, constant reinvention, and an unrelenting drive to evolve. With the release of “UNATØNED” (out April 25, 2025 via Nuclear Blast), the band has once again pushed their sound into its most direct and hard-hitting form to date.
Determined to challenge himself, Flynn imposed strict songwriting rules while working on “UNATØNED.” The goal: shorter, more focused compositions with a distinctly American character, unconventional key changes, and structures that defy expectations. This discipline resulted in a tight, relentless album that showcases Machine Head at their most intense.
The record is steeped in melancholic melodies while simultaneously striking with crushing riffs. It rises on anthemic chants of lost love and sorrow, only to shift into powerful, confident vocal declarations.
“UNATØNED” proves that longevity in metal isn’t about comfort — it’s about taking risks, standing by your convictions, and refusing to stagnate. Eleven albums into their career, Machine Head remain as fierce, vital, and unstoppable as ever.
